Concern at impact of staff cuts

Inclusion London, London Visual Impairment Forum and Transport for All have written to the Mayor of London to express concerns about the impact of proposed staffing cuts for London Underground on disabled people in the capital.

The organisations point out that the cuts have wide-ranging negative implications for disabled people in terms of the assistance available, security and overall ability to use the underground system. It says that ‘the loss of staff will have a significant impact on the lives of London’s residents and commuters’.

The organisations also point out that staff cuts go undermine proposals to increase staffing on the Underground during London’s hosting of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, when there will be ‘many thousands of visitors, including disabled visitors, wishing to use the Underground’

The three organisations call on the Mayor and Transport for London to ‘reconsider these proposals to ensure that disabled and older people can continue to use the London Underground in the future’.
