Inclusion London’s seminar on Thursday 23 September was a great success.

Inclusion London’s seminar on Disability in the Equality Act 2010 on Thursday 23 September was a great success. Coin Street Neighbourhood Centre’s conference room was filled to the brim with delegates from Deaf and disabled people’s organisations, public and private sector organisations, and other equality and voluntary sector organisations to find out about rights under the new Equality Act, due to start coming into force in October.

Particularly in the context of the impact of looming government spending cuts, representatives were extremely concerned about the new Conservative-Liberal government’s proposals to weaken the specific equality duties for the public sector, which are currently out for consultation. Concerns were also raised about the GLA’s proposals for its new Disability Equality Scheme. Further information on both these consultations is available elsewhere on this website.

A report of the seminar will be available on our website later in the autumn.
