Inclusion London’s new information paper looks at the government’s green paper Support and aspiration: A new approach to special educational needs and disability’.
The government is consulting on its green paper until 30 June. Our information paper highlights the key proposals and what we think about them. It also tells you what other people think, what you can do and how to get more information.
Two key issues in the green paper are:
The proposed removal of the statement of special educational needs, (SEN) replacing it with the ‘Single Assessment’ and the ‘Education, Health and Care plan’. The promotion of special schools and separate education –wants to end what it calls the ‘bias towards inclusion’ in mainstream education. 02/06/2011 We are concerned that the proposals are driven more by a medical model rather than social model of disability.
