Inclusion London’s annual conference was ‘an excellent event’, ‘well worth attending’ and‘useful and informative’. The theme of the conference was ‘Understanding the challenges and opportunities for Deaf/disabled people’s organisations of the new and emerging funding environment’.

The findings of Inclusion London’s research into funding cuts that London Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisations (DDPOs) are experiencing was presented to the audience of DDPOs from across London. One participant commented that, ‘At this time it is so important for DDPO’s to work together and come up with creative ideas to keep advocacy and campaigns alive’. A final report on the DDPOs cuts research will be available on the Inclusion London website in December.

The event was chaired by Inclusion London’s Chief Executive Officer, Tracey Lazard and the venue provided by SCOPE. Information on funding opportunities and applications was given by City Bridge Trust and Trust for London, and an expert briefing on ‘Emerging trends in public sector commissioning and tendering’ was given National Council Voluntary Organisations and a Commissioner from Lewisham presented on ‘Emerging trends in public sector commissioning and tendering’.  An attendee commented that they ‘enjoyed and valued’ the day.

There was much discussion, comment and networking with some clear, shared key messages coming out of the day including the importance of DDPOs capturing, evidencing and communicating to funders the ‘added value’ we bring as user led organisations.

A full transcript of the conference, together with presentations from speakers will be available on our website. And don’t forget to check our website for information on how Inclusion London will take forward the issues and next steps identified at the conference.
