Information paper on new government disability strategy

Inclusion London’s information paper describes and comments on ‘Fulfilling Potential’, the government’s discussion document calling on disabled paper to contribute to a new cross-government ‘disability strategy’.

16/02/2012

Inclusion London welcomes the opportunity for disabled people to be involved in forming a new ‘Disability Strategy’. However, the questions and issues raised in Fulfilling Potential  do not address some of the key causes of continuing inequality experienced by disabled people.

Inclusion London recommends that the new ‘disability’ strategy is based on the United Nations Convention of Rights of Disabled People. The strategy should lay out government’s action planto fulfil its duties under the convention, with the duty to comply backed by legislation. Government’s performance on key issues should be monitored by the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

Please find the information paper on the below.
Government has asked for responses to Fulfilling Potential by 5pm, 9March.
