Judicial review on cuts

A disabled activist with People First Lambeth (PFL) has won the right to challenge Lambeth council’s decision not to renew PFL’s annual contracts.

09/08/2011

A full judicial review will take place in the high court. Little warning was given of the loss of the contracts, which provide 94 per cent of PFL’s funding. The cuts are likely to cause the closure of the self-advocacy organization. Lawyers for Georgina Barrett, claim the council failed in its public sector equality duty, under the Disability Discrimination Act, to pay due regard to the impact of the cuts on disabled people and the need to promote disability equality, and to consult or engage with PFL members, before making the decision.
