Impaired adults twice as likely to experience barriers to employment.

Fifty seven per cent of adults with impairment experience barriers to employment compared to 26% of adults without impairment is one of the key findings of the Life Opportunities Survey, published recently by the Office of Disability Issues.
Twenty six per cent of adults aged 16 and over in Great Britain had rights under the disability provision of the Equality Act according to the fieldwork conducted between June 2009 and March 2011.
‘Wave one results, 2009/11’ in the report include:
- Adults with impairments were nearly 5 times (29%)more likely to experience difficulty accessing buildings for some reason compared adults of without impairment (6%).
- Sixteen per cent of adults with impairment experience barriers to education and training opportunities compared with nine percent of adults with impairment.
- Seventy five per cent of adults with impairment experienced barriers to using transport compared with 60% of adults with an impairment.
- Forty four per cent of households with at least one person with an impairment experienced barriers to economic life and living standards, compared with 29% of households without any people with impairment.
- Eight two per cent of adults with impairment experience barriers in leisure, social and cultural activities compared with 78%
