Consultation on proposed changes to the laws governing powered mobility scooters and powered wheelchairs (DfT 2010)

Following the consultation last year on proposals to change the law around mobility scooters and powered wheelchairs. You may be interested to know that the Minister of State recently announced that further work will now be undertaken with transport operators, industry and user group representatives.This will address a variety of options around training, guidance and minimum requirements. It will form part of our ongoing work on the Red Tape Challenge. In light of this there are likely to be further opportunities for you to give us your views and we will let you know more in due course.
The announcement has been made in answers to Parliamentary Questions from Ivan Lewis MP (Invalid Vehicles: Regulation - 26 October 2011) and from Annette Brooke MP (Invalid Vehicles: Safety - 27 October 2011).
