New government Equality Advisory and Support Service
New government Equality Advisory and Support Service
Government is commissioning a new ‘Equality Advisory and Support services, to provide information advice and support to those who may be victims of discrimination.
21/01/2012
The new service replaces the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) helpline and will provide expert advice and support to individuals on possible breaches of human rights law. Individuals will be encouraged to find ‘early and informal solutions’. The service will work with a network of organisations that already provide information and advice on employment, housing, debt and welfare problems, to identify discrimination and refer onto the new service.
The government has confirmed that state funding for legal advices regarding the contravention of the Equality Act 2010 will be only delivered through legal aid. Contraventions of the Equality Act 2010 will be within the scope of legal aid even after the reform of legal aid.
Unfortunately the government has decided not to support a specific discrimination and human rights education programme.
