Welfare Reform Bill - last chance to lobby MPs

Contact your MP now to urge them to vote down or radically revise the Welfare Reform Bill

23/01/2012

The Welfare Reform Bill,  will cause poverty and distress to thousands of Deaf and disabled people.  There is only about 2 weeks to change how your MP votes!

We have provided template letters for both individuals and Deaf and disabled people’s organisations.

The Welfare Reform Bill will have its third and final reading in the House of Lords on 31 January.  It then returns to the House of Commons to be voted on by MPs.  We need MPs to vote to change the Bill. At a minimum it is important that MPs support the amendments agreed by the Lords, which include:

  • Extendingthe period of eligibility  of contributory employment and support  to at least two years
  • Limiting the Housing Benefit penalties to only those households with two or more spare bedrooms and those with one extra room who have been offered suitable alternative accommodation.

Please adapt the template letters to reflect your or your organisations experience.
